Indonesian Language Courses in Europe

By: Indonesianlanguage.net

There are several good Indonesian language courses in the world. And each of them offers several different, interesting programs, such as writing class, conversation class, or mixed of both. But how do you choose the good one that suits you best? I’ve found one of the best Indonesian language courses in London and Paris recently, http://www.languagetrainers.co.uk/indonesian_courses_london.php, which charges you reasonable cost for such excellent services that they provide. And they also have quite many professional Indonesian teachers to help you learn Indonesian language in a more flexible way than most traditional Indonesian courses do.

The interesting thing about this fact is that most Indonesian language courses overseas are not run by the Indonesians themselves. But rather they are run either by Europeans or Malays who know more about the importance of learning Indonesian language for some English speakers and are very knowledgeable about how to ‘market’ their Indonesian courses to those English speakers.

How to Choose the Best Indonesian Language Courses

Indonesian Language Courses

Just like any other Indonesian language courses in Indonesia, the first thing you must be sure of when choosing which Indonesian courses suit you best is to see if the teachers are experienced and highly professional. You can know these facts by asking if they are all certified teachers or not. Why do you have to check their certification? It is because nowadays there are so many unskilled Indonesians who claim themselves to be professional teachers, especially in financial crisis like it is.

Secondly, you can see their professionalism by checking their English fluency. There are many Indonesians who consider themselves to be Indonesian teachers yet they can even hardly understand or speak good English. You can know their English speaking ability by asking them questions in English and see how their responses are. Good Indonesian language courses are supposed to only hire English speaking Indonesian teachers.

Another way to check their professionalism is to see if they appreciate your time and money. Beware of any Indonesian language courses which don’t seem to appreciate your time by coming to your office late or forget about the learning-teaching schedule for whatsoever reasons.

Thirdly, be sure that the so-called-Indonesian teachers really know how to transfer their knowledge in good English. Why should you have an English speaking teacher if he can not answer your questions well?

Indonesian Language Courses – Private or Group

After you find a good Indonesian school, you might be wondering if you should enroll in private class or group class or even online class. It is highly suggested that you enroll in a private class rather than a group. It is because when you take a private class, your teacher could focus more on improving your Bahasa Indonesia speaking skills more effectively. In a group class, the teachers do not have more time to just focus on just one student, and therefore sometimes it is much cheaper to take a group class. But if you want to succeed in improving your overall Indonesian language skills within a short period of time, it is recommended to take private class instead of group.

Private classes in Indonesian language courses also tend to be more serious than just traditional Indonesian schools therefore your Indonesian language skills will improve more in private Indonesian courses.

By: IndonesianLanguage.net

Learn Indonesian language

Nowadays there are more and more Australians who learn Indonesian language. Bahasa Indonesia (or Indonesian language) is spoken by over three hundred million people as either their first or second language. Together with an understanding of local culture and customs, an ability to speak Indonesian language is an important key to communicating effectively with people living in the Indonesia archipelago and the neighboring countries of Malaysia, Brunei, and Singapore. Hence studying Indonesian language means you will be able to communicate with more than three hundred million Indonesians, only a small percentage of whom are able to speak English. The Malay language is also a close relative to Indonesian. You can therefore understand both languages with ease since there are only minor differences in vocabulary. Therefore, learning Indonesian gives access to about three hundred million people—including those in Malaysia, Singapore, and Brunei.

Australia is a multicultural country that understands the importance of learning languages other than English. Indonesian language is a popular language in Australia, and many Australians take the opportunity to learn Indonesian language at school and universities. Therefore the Australian Government has announced a nearly $65 million dollar funding increase for its Asian languages program, including Indonesian language, which provides greater opportunities for Australian school students to understand and engage with the region. It is because the Australian Government realizes that the key to strengthen the relationship between Australia and Indonesia is to become familiar with the Indonesian language, which has been taught at schools and universities in Australia for many years.

Linguistic Reasons to Learn Indonesian

Indonesian language is one of the easiest languages in the world — honest! Learning Bahasa Indonesia would be a valuable experience in itself, and what’s more: you can pick up the basics within just a few weeks. Below are a few reasons why it is so easy to learn Indonesian:

No tenses. Unlike the English language, Indonesian language has no tenses at all. Adding time indicators (like tomorrow, 2 days ago, now, etc.) and aspect markers into your sentences will do.

No genders or cases. Unlike in German, Indonesian language has no genders or grammatical cases attached to the nouns.

Simple plurals. Unlike in German, plurals are very simple in Indonesian. You only need to repeat the noun (e.g. bahasa ? bahasa-bahasa), or adding quantitative indicators (e.g. many, few) into the sentence (e.g. banyak bahasa ? many languages).

A simple system of word formation. Indonesian has a straightforward system for combining words with prefixes, suffixes, and infixes to create new words. For example: satu means one, whereas bersatu means to unite (i.e., to make into one). This means fewer words to memorize and you can (sort of) mix-and-match words to form your own word. The catch is that some words cannot be combined with some prefixes or suffixes, but you’ll learn that it’s simple.

Uses the 26 letters of the Roman alphabet, which means that there is no need to relearn the alphabet, or use special software to type.

Consistent spelling. Indonesian is very phonetic, just like Italian. Every character is consistently spelled the same way in any word, with only very few exceptions.

No Tones and simple stress patterns. Unlike in Chinese, Indonesian language has no tone in pronunciation. No matter where you put the stress, people will still recognize the word and understand the sentences.

Sentence form is easy to understand. Indonesian sentence structure is similar to English: Subject + Verb + (Object). So, you can easily form sentences in Indonesian language.

Very simple, isn’t it? Now you can see why learning Indonesian language is really worth it, especially when you plan to travel to Indonesia and the neighboring countries in the near future.

Why are there more and more foreigners who want to learn bahasa while most Indonesians themselves are more interested in learning the English language or other world languages such as Mandarin and Japanese? There are many reasons why these foreigners want to learn bahasa. Some of them even come to Indonesia just with the sole purpose, which is to learn bahasa Indonesia! So what are the reasons for most foreigners who are willing to spare their time and effort just to learn Bahasa Indonesia?

According to IALF, Indonesian language or Bahasa Indonesia is the national language of the Republic of Indonesia. It unites the over 350 million people (2008 estimate) of Indonesia, whose native tongue may be one of the over 300 distinct languages or regional dialects. Older people may speak some Dutch and English is the foreign language of choice for business, tourism and study.

While it may be technically possible for foreigners to live in Jakarta without learning/speaking Bahasa Indonesia, it is highly recommended that you obtain a working knowledge of the Indonesian national language. An inability to communicate in Bahasa Indonesia will cut you off from the mainstream of society, and dealing with those Indonesians who don’t speak your foreign language will be very difficult. By not learning the language, you also deny yourself the rich cultural experience of fully communicating with those from another culture.

Should I Learn Bahasa?

Most of the reasons why those foreigners are willing to learn bahasa Indonesia, though few of them might say that learning Indonesian is not easy at the beginning, are because they live and stay in Indonesia, either for temporary or permanently. It has always been said that when we stay in a place, it is strongly advisable that we speak the language as well, otherwise we would be an alien who would gradually be isolated from the community.

When to Learn Bahasa?

The best time to start learning Bahasa Indonesia is before you even make your move to Indonesia. And this is only possible if you join our online Indonesian language course which is delivered through Skype. All the learning materials will be exactly the same as if you join our class or group.

There are quite a number of expatriates staying in Indonesia, mostly for a year or even more. And they who are married sometimes also stay in Indonesia with their wife and children. Understanding Indonesian language is essential primarily because there are NOT many Indonesians who can speak English. So how can you interact with the community if you don’t know the language?

Learn Bahasa Indonesia

Learning Indonesian is considered so essential that almost all international schools in Indonesia, either in Bandung, Jakarta, Surabaya and other major cities teach their students how to speak Indonesian correctly, at least, they are taught how to communicate with the environment using the correct Indonesian grammar. So don’t be surprised if we happen to hear an American boy in Indonesia who can communicate quite well in Indonesian language with a local Indonesian boy in a villageJ.

So whatever your reason is to learn bahasa, take your time now to seriously learn the language, and you’ll soon find out that it’s really worth itJ.
